The Challenge — A Restoration Where Abrasion Is Not an Option. A third-generation independent watchmaker specializing in 19th- and early-20th-century pocket watches faced a recurring dilemma. Each restoration involved movements caked in decades-old, oxidized lubricants, dried sweat residues and microscopic dust trapped inside the barrel, escapement and jewel settings. Traditional cleaning — soaking parts in petrochemical-based baths followed by hand-brushing with a chamois — was effective only on exposed surfaces. Fine details such as the inner walls of the barrel, the teeth of the third wheel and the recesses of the balance cock remained contaminated. Worse, even the lightest abrasive action on a polished steel surface or blued screw could permanently destroy the historical value of the piece. The watchmaker needed a method capable of reaching every microscopic cavity while treating each component with absolute gentleness.

The ACMESONIC Solution — 68 kHz Gentle Cavitation Tuned for Horology. The workshop integrated an ACMESONIC Ultrasonic Cleaner configured specifically for delicate horological work. Using a 68 kHz high-frequency setting — substantially gentler than the standard 40 kHz industrial frequency — the unit produces finely controlled cavitation bubbles that implode with enough force to dislodge embedded grime yet without contacting or abrading the substrate. The SUS304 tank, 0–99 minute programmable timer and low-heat operation protect even the most fragile vintage components.

The Outcome — Museum-Quality Cleanliness, Repeatably. Since adopting the ACMESONIC Ultrasonic Cleaner, the workshop has reported zero instances of cleaning-related surface damage across more than 400 restored movements. Pre-cleaning disassembly time fell by roughly one third, because cavitation now reaches areas that previously required manual picking. Most importantly, the restored timepieces leave the bench with lubricants and contaminants fully removed, allowing fresh oil to bond correctly — extending service intervals and preserving the acoustic signature that gives each watch its character.
