Espresso & Commercial Coffee Machine Hardware: Group Screens, Portafilter Spouts, Steam Tips & Brass Valves

Challenge

A commercial coffee-equipment service company refurbished espresso group screens, diffusion disks, portafilter spouts, steam wand tips and small brass solenoid valves. Roasted-coffee oil oxidized into sticky lacquer on screen mesh and spout bores; milk fat and protein built up inside steam tips; fine grounds packed into diffusion holes. Brushes could not reach mesh intersections or valve ports, while warm soak softened group gaskets, loosened plated finishes and added warm-up time for same-day turnaround.

Solution

The bench installed an ACMESONIC Ultrasonic Cleaner with no heating element: SUS304 tank, 28 kHz for polymerized coffee oil on heavy brass bodies, 40 kHz for group screens and steam tips, adjustable ultrasonic power, degas mode for fresh aqueous coffee-detergent and semi mode for chrome-plated spouts. Group screens were held vertical in dedicated racks, portafilters placed inverted in perforated baskets, and brass valves separated by port size.

Outcome

Group-screen mesh, diffusion holes and portafilter spouts de-oiled uniformly without hand brushing. Steam-tip orifices cleared of milk-fat and protein residue, improving froth consistency. Brass valve ports cleaned without thermal tolerance change; no heater warm-up and no hot-soak gasket softening reduced energy use and bench risk.
