Industrial Porous Ceramic Filters & Sensor Protection Elements

Challenge

A process-equipment service unit maintained porous alumina/zirconia filter candles, ceramic aeration discs, sensor protection sheaths and small porous vent elements used in coolant loops, gas sampling and laboratory filtration. Pores trapped metal fines, coolant mist, pigment powder and silica dust; backflush alone could not release deep pore-blocking ultrafine particles. Acid/thermal bake suited only some chemistries and added long turnaround, while brushes damaged brittle ceramic surfaces.

Solution

The service unit standardized on an ACMESONIC Ultrasonic Cleaner with no heating: SUS316L tank for chemical-compatible rinses, 40 kHz primary for general pore evacuation, 68 kHz for ultrafine sensor vents, adjustable power to avoid brittle-surface overloading, degas mode to purge dissolved air and semi mode for thin ceramic sheaths. Filter candles hung vertically in custom racks; discs lay in non-abrasive trays.

Outcome

Deep pore fines, coolant mist and pigment dust released more consistently than backflush-only maintenance. Ultrafine sensor vents restored without brush damage or thermal shock. Ambient process simplified chemical compatibility control for alumina/zirconia elements; repeatable degas/semi recipes reduced brittle-chip risk and improved restart pressure-drop stability.
