E-Bike & Bicycle Drivetrain Components: Chains, Cassettes, Derailleurs
Challenge
A premium bicycle and e-bike service workshop cleaned chains, cassette sprockets, chainrings, derailleur cages and jockey wheels. Wet lube attracted road grit; dry lube left waxy deposits; city and coastal riding added light salt dust. Manual brushing cleaned outer surfaces only — chain roller interiors, cassette tooth roots and derailleur pivot bushes stayed contaminated. Solvent tanks created fumes, and heated wash was unnecessary for routine drivetrain turnaround.
Solution
The workshop adopted an ACMESONIC Ultrasonic Cleaner without heating: SUS304 industrial bench tank, 28 kHz for chain rollers and heavy lube residues, 40 kHz for cassette detailing and delicate derailleur springs, adjustable power and degas mode. Chains ran on a fixture to avoid tangling; cassettes stood vertically to prevent air pockets in tooth gaps.
Outcome
Chain roller bores, cassette tooth roots and jockey pivots decontaminated without dismantling every link. Wet-lube grit, dry-lube wax and light salt dust were removed in repeatable ambient cycles. No heater energy and no solvent fumes; post-clean lubrication went onto consistently clean metal, improving shift performance and reducing premature wear.
