Pipette Tips, Microcentrifuge Tubes & Rack Hardware

Challenge

A lab-consumables recovery and QA station processed reusable pipette tips, microcentrifuge tube bodies, cap inserts, tube racks and small plastic/metal hardware. Residual buffer salts crystallized inside narrow tip bores; sample precipitate adhered to tube walls; detergent film remained in cap threads. Autoclave pre-rinse removed surface contamination but not inner-tip deposits; manual flushing could not reach the full length of narrow channels. Warm detergent risked affecting calibrated plastics, O-ring seals and heat-sensitive tube materials.

Solution

The station standardized on an ACMESONIC Ultrasonic Cleaner with no heating: SUS316L tank for chemical-compatible rinses, 40 kHz for tube bodies, caps and racks, 68 kHz for narrow pipette-tip bores and micro-apertures, adjustable power, degas mode for filtered rinse solution and semi mode for calibrated plastic parts and thin-wall tubes. Tips were loaded in vertical micro-racks, tubes inverted in slotted holders, and caps placed in mesh trays.

Outcome

Pipette-tip inner bores were de-salted and de-filmed without manual flushing damage. Microcentrifuge tube walls, cap threads and inserts were cleaned of sample precipitate. No heater thermal drift for calibrated plastics and O-ring seals; repeatable ambient recipes shortened pre-autoclave prep time.
